How better to open our 2012 concert season than with the return of one of the
star players from the World-famous Blackpool Tower.
Born and educated in Wigan, John began playing the organ at the age of 8. On leaving school he immediately joined the team of resident organists playing each day “The Mighty Wurlitzer” of the Tower Ballroom. On this occasion John will be playing his vast repertoire of varied music (which includes ragtime as a particular favourite) on his own Technics GA3.
Daniel started organ lessons when he was just 8 years old and, at the age of 12, began playing in public all over Northamptonshire helping to raise money first of all for his local school and then several local charities including the "Northamptonshire Guide Dogs For The Blind", and "The Falkland War Veterans Association" for whom he helped to raise over £3000 in a series of charity concerts with other local performers. At the age of 16 Daniel left school and turned professional touring the UK playing both for dancing and in concert at clubs and festivals all over the country.
For the first 8 years, David slowly developed a passion for music with every
open opportunity having a go on the school piano. At the age of 9, his parents
bought him his first organ unfortunately his persistent practising on the
Bontempi stretched his parents tolerance until they could stand no more, so he
was given the option of attending lessons and a new organ. After 1 year’s
tuition, he decided that he would throw away the teaching books and play by ear.
Many of you who have heard David in concert will know that he never carries
music with him. David’s concerts are performed by his amazing ability to play by
ear. This enables him to choose his material, listen to it once or twice and
then play it - Brilliantly!

A

At first glance this may seem an unlikely pairing but when these two great
artistes got together at our 2011 Musical Weekend in Skegness, their diverse
talents combined to make the evening a huge success - so much so that our
members demanded we bring them to the Markham Hall stage!
Don’t miss this unique evening of music and laughter!
Nicholas is a regular visitor to
NEDOS
and one of our members all-time
favourites. Nick began to play the organ at the age of 11 and amazingly achieved
his driving ambition to become one of the Blackpool Tower team of organists by
the age of 17. He subsequently became resident organist at Turner’s Musical
Merry-Go-Round in Northampton where he entertained many thousands of visitors
until its closure over 21 years later.
June 20th IAN HOUSE
One of the fastest rising young stars of the organ world, Ian House is something
of a dynamic fresh face on the organ and keyboard scene. At the age of only 22,
he is firmly establishing himself as a consummate concert musician and is
becoming a regular face on the UK concert circuit, as well as performing
internationally several times in both America and Europe.
Kevin Grunill has rapidly built a fine reputation as one of the UK’s finest keyboard exponents. Such is the extent of his musicianship that he is equally at home on the modern electronic instruments as well as the more traditional pipe organ and piano. Kevin was born in Barnsley, South Yorkshire in 1972 and had shown an interest in all matters of a musical nature at an early age. However, it was not until the age of twelve that he began to learn the electronic organ as his chosen instrument. At the age of sixteen, Kevin began to take an interest in the sound of the mighty theatre organ and it was a natural musical progression that he should begin to study this type of instrument, for which he developed a different playing style to that of his electronic organ performances. It was not long after this that Kevin began performing concerts throughout the country, featuring both electronic and theatre organs.
Born in Manchester in 1971, he emigrated to New Zealand with his parents when
just 2 years old. Returning to England at the age of 5, his education and
formative years while growing up in Lancashire saw him pursue his love of music
with piano and organ studies culminating in a string of engagements for both
local concerts and dances from the age of 14.
Since then, he has gone on to become one of the most popular performers in the
UK and intersperses his regular annual diary of engagements in Britain with
frequent overseas concert tours with have included Holland, Australia and the US
as well as New Zealand.
In this age of digital electronics
and computerised technological wizardry, Eddie Ruhier is one of the few
organists whose style and sounds remain instantly recognisable.
Eddie manages to combine the nostalgic sounds of the Hammond organ with
modern orchestral sounds together with his own amazing musical skill and
dexterity to produce the distinct style and sound that is uniquely his own.
Travelling just a few miles from Dronfield almost certainly makes Glyn our most
local artiste. Perhaps because of that we sometimes fail to realise that we have
one of the UK’s most highly talented and accomplished artistes in our midst.
After a long absence from the organ circuit we were delighted to welcome Glyn to
our Musical Weekend in Skegness where his performance was acclaimed by our
members. We are delighted that Glyn has agreed to perform for us at The Markham
Hall.
Tim has entertained us at
NEDOS
regularly for over 20 years so almost all of our members know what to expect!
It’s certain to be a night of fun and laughter when the flamboyant Mr Flint once
again brings his own brand of musical brilliance, showmanship and pure entertainment.
